Self-Unlock OpenAir Feature for End User Logins

Did you know you can set up self service security controls that will allow users to unlock themselves?

Are your password controls a bit complicated? Requiring uppercase and lowercase, a number, a symbol, and be a certain length? Although this is a good approach for secure logins to your system, it also creates a bit of a headache at times with your end-users forgetting or mistyping their passwords. This many times ends up with users being locked out of the system due to maxing out login in attempts. Standard OpenAir functionality provides an email notification mechanism which is usually routed to your internal Help Desk or IT to handle the lock out and contact the user when the account has been reset. Recently OpenAir added a very helpful tool in this area which provide a self-unlock feature that still requires strict security control but allows the user to unlock themselves provided they answer security questions correctly.

This feature is available by contacting OpenAir Support and asking for the internal switch ‘Enable password security questions’ to be enabled. Once enabled, when a user logs on, they will be prompted to setup security questions and answers to be access in the event they incur a lockout in the future. New users automatically are prompted to setup the security questions. Existing users can be prompted by requiring their change their password (‘force a change’ checkbox on the user demographic record).

Once they select the desired question from the list and provide an answer for each of the security questions (and changing their password), the information is saved in their profile.

Should you forget the answer to one of your questions, your System Administrator still has access to reset your account and allow you to reset your questions/answers.
